Slaughterfree, Organic Shetland Wool, light worsted, moorit

$20.00

Gentle wool is pure shetland wool from a slaughterfree and organic flock in Wales, UK.

Almost all wool sheep get slaughtered after only about five years as their fleece becomes a bit less soft. This means that they end up in the food chain

As a vegetarian and a passionate knitter, this made me very sad. I began to look for slaughterfree wool. It was indeed almost impossible to find, until I discoverd the vegetarian wool company in Wales. Helen and Pete have a small flock of seventy shetland sheep. They live their lives until they pass away naturally or like pets. They spend their days outside on vast meadows, where they can chew on fresh grass.

The yarn is undyed and has its natural colours.

It has and has a soft, bouncy quality. It gives a great stitch definition for aran work, but also has a soft halo, which suits fairisle knitting very well too.

Gauge is 20 sts and 25 rows / 10 cm (4”) square.
