14 vintage inspired knitting projects for all those who love Charlotte Brontë’s novels and the victorian era.

A year ago I decided to write a knitting book and dived deep into the victorian era and searched for the most enchanted knitting patterns.
With great joy I noticed that many of the victorian knitted items can still be worn today. I picked the cherries, combined them with my own imagination and thus created a collection of historically inspired knitwear designs.

Sweaters, tops and cardigans await you. If you look for a quick project, there are wristwarmers, hats and mittens to try. There are easier designs as well as more demanding ones, so that there is a bit of everything.

The designs may be worn with your vintage garments, but would also be very attractive combined with your modern wardrobe.

There is much more to be discoverd in the book: In the chapter about vintage Lifestyle are ideas on how to add some vintage charm to one’s everyday world: There are recipe ideas, outfit suggestions and much more.

Each design is named after one of Charlotte Brontë’s heroines and heroes. The book is full of Jane Eyre’s and Lucy Snowe’s inspiration. There are also humorous and thoughtful quotations from the famous novels to enjoy.

Vintage jewelry

Antique jewelry can nowadays be purchased for a small amount of Money, because it’s completely out of fashion. How convenient for us vintage enthusiasts!

I find it so much more interesting to wear antique jewelry, which tells a story.

It adds a certain “je ne sais quoi” to a modern outfit.

Why not browse through old recipe books and look for delicious recipies, which our great grandmothers used to cook? The recipe for this apple pie can be downloaded on the website. I found it in a cookery book from the 1870ties.

The triangular shawl “Caroline” is knitted in a blend of recycled cashme and merino. It has a knitted on lace border. Such lace borders were often knit in victorian times. Luna, my sister’s dog had much fun, posing with me for the photos!

Mittens “Alice”

These mittens are inspired by the loving housekeeper “Alice Fairfax” of “Jane Eyre”. I designed a pair of warm mittens, which will keep your fingers warm on your walks through cold and misty autumn weather.

Shawl “Helen”

The buttery soft cashmere yarn is a treat for your hands already while knitting the Shawl. The shawl will lie soft as a cloud on your shoulders and will warm not only your shoulders on cold winter evenings but also your heart.
